This six day course introduces the variety of tools, materials, sewings and constructions fundamental to hand bookbinding.  The course will start with the making of a simple pamphlet and proceed to the binding of two hard cover books. This class prepares participants to explore bookbinding on their own or continue with more advanced studies.

Barbara Helander holds two degrees (B.Ed., M.Sc.) and her major in both was Clothing & Textiles.  Her professional career was spent in apparel manufacturing where she worked in a variety of capacities ranging from product development to quality assurance.  She currently acts as a textile consultant and also teaches textiles at Seneca College.  In her spare time, Barbara runs a small keepsake business that includes creating one-of-a-kind books.  Barb has worked her way through the core CBBAG courses and was pleased to earn her certificate in the spring of 2010.
