Crown Binding Book

Instructor: Gabriele Lundeen

Location: CBBAG bindery

Duration: 1 Evening, Thurs, June 23

Hours: 6:00 p.m. -8:30 p.m.

Course Fee: $50 members

Materials Fee: included in fee

Prerequisite: None

In this evening course, we will revisit the blizzard book and make Hedi Kyle's crown binding. This structure uses a narrow blizzard book as the spine for inserted pages. This form is unique because the pages are removable and changeable. The crown binding allows the book artist to make a book without sewing or gluing the art. We will be making a book that holds seven pages folded in half. It will have a soft cloth cover glued to card.

Gabriele Lundeen first encountered CBBAG through Bookbinding I, eight or so years ago.  She had just finished the first year at the Ontario Collage of Art and Design, had decided that further work there was not what she wanted and was looking around for something else as a creative vehicle.  She soon became engrossed in making books and is an aspiring book artist. She is a former librarian and management consultant.  She is intrigued by the idea of allowing viewers to explore pockets and other enclosures in books.
