Learn how to combine basic pop-up techniques to make more intricate structures. Form solid and sculpted shapes. Create movement on the page using V-folds and hidden straps. Techniques can be used for cards or books. Lise Melhorn-Boe, a.k.a. Madame Pop-up has been making pop-ups, exhibiting them and teaching others the joys of popping-up for many years.

This workshop is suitable for teens and adults. Teachers are welcome—Madame Pop-up has years of experience in elementary and high school classrooms. Making pop-ups is a cross-curricular activity that can be geared to younger students as well.

Students should bring the following to supplement the provided tools/materials: glue stick or double-sided tape, scissors for precise paper cutting, and colouring materials (coloured pencils or non-toxic markers).

Lise Melhorn-Boe has been making and exhibiting books and sculptural bookworks for almost forty years. Her work is in several public and university collections including the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Canada Council Art Bank, Library and Archives Canada, the National Gallery in Ottawa, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
