Don’t have 951 square feet of mess-making and drying space in your house? No? Then, this workshop is just for you!

This two-day workshop will focus on demonstrating professional bookbinding techniques and skill-building to allow participants to better customize their books. And keep the mess in the bindery where it belongs!

We will explore the following techniques:

  • ·       Prepare your own natural fibre cloths to use as book covering materials
  • ·       Laminate Paper and Line boards to get just the right cover board (no warping!)
  • ·       Tone papers (including Tyvek) and Thread for exposed sewings
  • ·       Prepare Silk for use as bookcloth

Bring your apron and your own materials to prepare a stash of samples over two days. The instructor will reach out to recommend materials and papers that will be most successful, so sign up early!

Rose Newlove is a graduate of the Fleming College conservation program and works as a book and paper conservator in Toronto. She has studied bookbinding at CBBAG with Don Taylor and Betsy Palmer Eldridge and at the American Academy of Bookbinding with Don Etherington.
