Coptic & Stab Bindings: Exposing the Possibilities

Instructor: Carolyn Eady

Location: CBBAG Bindery (180 Shaw St, Toronto)

Duration: 2 days, Saturday-Sunday, Sept 15-16

Hours: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Course fee: $ 210 members/$ 270 non-members

Materials fee: $35 payable to the instructor

Prerequisite: None

In this 2-day class for advanced beginners/those with some bookbinding experience, we’ll explore contemporary stab bindings, and a variation of the 2-needle Coptic stitch.

Two styles of hard covers will be taught: regular Coptic covers, and a hinged style cover. We’ll go over the advantages of both and put them into practice with the main projects; a hardcover contemporary stab binding, and a hard cover 2-needle Coptic binding with fancy cover stitching.

This class is an exploration of non-adhesive, exposed spine bindings, with a focus on creating variations of the mainstream versions of these bindings, so previous exposure to sewing a Coptic binding or a stab binding is useful.

*If you require glasses to see small details up close, make sure to bring them!
