IN PERSON: Leather Trip Journal with Stuart Hill

This rugged, attractive leather-covered journal is based on a 14th-century limp binding ledger structure. The text block is sewn independently onto leather tabs, later to be joined with tackets to the leather cover.

Although not difficult to build, it requires many steps and unique sewing patterns.  The flexible structure is perfect for sketching while sitting on the shore or writing on a deck.

Once filled with memories, the cover can be detached, and a new text block inserted for new journeys.

Stuart Hill has studied bookbinding under the guidance of Betsy Palmer Eldridge, Don Taylor, Dan Mezza, Karin Scheper, and Rose Newlove. With a background in engineering and architecture, his keen interest is in the discovery of book structures. Please visit Stuart’s website: www.georgehillco.com.
